      Initial pressings omitted three tracks from the original LP.
      “Shoulder Holdster” a kind of Bonnie and Clyde tale that’s pretty weak. “Out of the Blue” an instrumental that sounds like the theme to an Aron Spelling cop show and “The Wide Eyed and Laughing” a strange and eerie song with Indian style instruments.
      This album has some great moments but it’s a long, long listen even when edited to 15 tracks!
      Some of the songs are too long such as “Boogie Pilgrim” which seems to keep going for the sake of it!
      “Between 17 and Twenty”, “Where’s The Shoorah?”, “If There’s a God in Heaven” and “Bite Your Lip” (another long pointless track), are all weak and irritating songs that could have been axed!

            Not his last great album IMO because he had a few strong releases in the 90's but one of the overlooked ones from a catalog with no shortage of major releases. I first had this on a CD but I was very disappointed to find they left some tracks off to fit what I assume the record company thought to be the good ones on one disc. Among them and one of my favorites was "Shoulder Holster". Had to tretun that copy without even listening to it.

            I always considered most double LP albums to be strong releases from any artist as they have enough creative material to fill four sides. This album proves it by including 3 incredible (and, dare I say, somewhat progressive rock) instrumentals. Other stand-outs to me feature the blended styles of popular music past and the fast approaching future including the vocal jazzy "Idol" and the almost disco entries like "Boogie Pilgrim" and "Bite Your Lip".

            Maybe this album could be the signal for the end of an era but Elton and company certainly were not finished making good music after the Blue Moves album despite rough patches in the coming decade.

              This pressing is outstanding. The consensus seems to be that prime Elton is 1970-75 but I always include this album as well. It doesn't reach the highs of Yellow Brick Road but it's still musically creative and inventive.

                Perfet sound! I compared it with the American first press and I can say that the Japanese is better in all respects.

                      Absolutely horrible sound and a absolutely great album so sad. This is the last great album he made. This marks the end of the classic Elton John years

                        I got this recently to replace my old worn out copy and it sounds fantastic.I don`t hear any of the "pops" or noise you are referring to.Perhaps you have been unlucky?
